Day 18

...Quiet Corner (to escape to)?

Welcome to Day EIGHTEEN of our A-Z+ of Seasonal Sanity Savers – 2024.

Today’s letter is Q and you guessed it right if you thought I’d choose Quiet or Quiet Corner (to escape to) during the noisy festivities. A very personal festive hideaway for much needed instant calm.

I recommend creating a quiet corner, your ‘haven’ during the festive period where you can escape to and re-centre yourself. It may only be a corner of a room, or a whole room if you have that luxury.

Fill it with your favourite things – a current book (I always have a Donna Ashworth to hand), a scented candle, a fluffy blanket, a healing crystal, your noise-cancelling earphones, or whatever will help you to nestle down and feel better in a matter of moments.

The purpose of your quiet corner is to act as your own personal retreat where you can block the world out, even if just for a few precious minutes.

Think of it as your sanctuary amidst the festive chaos and let people know that (unless disaster is ensuing) you’re not to be disturbed when in this space.

It’s your personal energy recharging station. I don’t know an introvert who doesn’t need that!

This space doesn’t just offer physical comfort; it’s a place to reset mentally. When the social buzz gets too loud or the demands of the season leave you drained, retreating to your quiet corner can bring instant relief. Breathe deeply, immerse yourself in a soothing activity, or simply sit in stillness. Even a few minutes in your haven can help you recalibrate, ensuring you show up authentically for the moments that truly matter.

Guard this space fiercely and visit it as often as you need as it is your key to flourishing on your own terms this season.

Tomorrow we journey with the letter ‘R’. What word beginning with R would you add to your festive sanity kit? Do you think your and my R will match?

Quietly, and peacefully yours,
-Joanna
