Inclusivity – but HOW? (Ep 237)

Behind the Scenes - Week 36

Nugget of the Week

You might think that some workplace situations are not appropriate for bringing out childlike behaviour. Think again.
I was delivering a course on Presentation Skills this week in a client’s office. We had a great day and there were lots of golden nuggets shared as we explored the why, how and what of presenting an often dry subject. At the end, the group gave me a round of applause, and I spontaneously curtsied, just as I would have done as a child. That provoked more laughter, which was a great way to end what had been an insightful and beneficial day.

This Sh** Really Happened!

So, these price hikes then, what if I were to tell you that I’m talking percentage increases in the hundreds, not just the tens! Really. I don’t begrudge anyone increasing their prices – heck I do that myself, and that’s because I’m a business not a charity. But there’s good business and then there’s greedy!

To add insult to injury, I got the email about the latest automatic price hike the day it would be billed! Being customer focused this is NOT!

It smacks of ‘take it or leave it’ arrogance, and I’ll give you two guesses as to what I’ll be doing. Yep – they got an email from me, and regardless of whether they read it or not, I have the right to respond to their notification.

Coming up, Buttercup!

Do you feel ready to unlock your childlike freedom but not sure how? Many of us have some self-limiting beliefs to overcome because we may be too worried about what other think of us. If you really want to flourish and experience life on your own terms, my Flip Your Limiting Beliefs course might just be the right step to get started.

I created this course with practical strategies that will help you edit the script on self-doubt and encourage you to build a stronger, sassier and confident mindset, while remaining your true quiet-self. Irrespective of where in life you are at this moment, this course offers the tools to break free from the barriers that holding you hostage to fear, shame or gaslighting from within or out.

Begin your journey today towards a more liberated, confidently childlike and sassier you. Rediscover your potential and reignite your sense of wonder.

Using Your Voice: Authentically

Using Your Voice

Authentically as an Introvert

(dropping) Pebbles in the Pond

Season 2, Episode 011

What happens when a powerhouse vocal coach meets a champion for Sassy Introverts?

Magic.

In this energising and deeply honest conversation, Clinton Jordan joins our Founder and CEO, Joanna Rawbone to explore how introverts can stop hiding and start trusting their voices in ways that feel real, resonant and unapologetically theirs.

Clinton’s journey, from stutter to superstar stages is proof that your voice doesn’t have to be loud to carry weight. Together, they unpack the courage, confidence and cheek it takes to show up fully in a noisy world without selling out your quieter nature.

This is more than a pep talk. It’s a rallying cry for introverts who are ready to speak with soul, not volume.

Tune in for a laugh, reflection and walk away Becoming Braver than before.

Together, she and Joanna explore the subtle (and not so subtle) scripts we absorb – about success, belonging, and how we are meant to show up. More importantly, what happens when we start questioning them.

This is a conversation about the gut-punch moment of realisation, the discomfort of unlearning, and the quiet courage it takes to choose differently.

In this episode, we’ll dive into

  • Why the life you’re living might not be the one you chose
  • How to unearth and rewrite the scripts that no longer serve you
  • What one conscious line you might add to your story, starting now

Day 01 – December 01, 2025

Day 01

The commitment to 'Me time'

Welcome to Day ONE of our A-Z+ of Seasonal Sanity Savers – 2024.

As the festive season arrives, somehow time seems to escape us faster and we forget to catch a breath. The clock keeps ticking, the deadlines keep getting closer and there’s so much to do.

For we introverts, it can be pleasurable to be with friends and family who understand our needs, or we find ourselves ticking the days off and suddenly it is all over.

This year around, let’s make a commitment to ourselves: that, we will put aside a block of time every single day, maybe at the same time so we can as I said, ‘catch a breath’. Let us make it a calming routine that helps us recharge so we can continue to flourish despite all the rush and noise around us.

Afterall, we know how easy it is to forget things, well often ourselves and our needs when we get busy.

So, we’ll be doing the countdown right through to the New Year. That’s when we expect some semblance of normality to return and brings us to the brink of World Introvert Day on Jan 2nd.

As usual, I’ll be hosting a LIVE Webinar to celebrate calmly and gently as that’s the way I intend 2025 to go for me.

Our Seasonal Sanity Savers are so important as they are daily reminders to look after ourselves and our needs. I’m super excited as again this year I’m featuring the photos of many of our talented introverts.

Tomorrow, we start at the very beginning with ‘A’, (a very good place to start!) so what do you know or do that starts with an ‘A’ that helps you hang on to your sanity?

Share your suggestions in the comments and who knows there might be a hidden treasure or few along the way?

Quietly and calmly yours,
-Joanna

Flourishing Amid Chaos

Flourishing Amid Chaos

(dropping) Pebbles in the Pond

Season 3, Episode 002

How can introverts lead, stay resilient, and grow when the world feels like it’s falling apart? In this episode of ‘dropping’ Pebbles in the Pond, the Original Flourishing Introvert, Joanna Rawbone and the featured Flourishing Personality, Laura Toop, founder of ‘Project Me’ explore how to find calm, confidence, and clarity amid chaos.

They unpack what authentic leadership looks like when everything around you is shifting, how introverts can reclaim their agency, and why flourishing begins from within, even when the external world feels unsteady.

If you’re craving grounded insight, soulful leadership, and practical ways to flourish through uncertainty, this is a conversation you don’t want to miss.

Reflections Week 40 of 2025

What are you more afraid of, failing or never finding out what might have been if you had tried?

Failure can sting. It can bruise the ego, trigger the inner-critic, and shake our sense of safety.

But regret?
Regret gnaws at us for years, sometimes decades. It is the unfinished sentence, the unwritten book, the business never launched, the invitation never accepted. Regret is poison, a slow drip that shrinks life into a series of what-ifs.

So what are you really more afraid of, the sting of failing, or the ache of never knowing?

If you try and fail, you have stories, data, lived experience, scars that testify you were brave enough to show up. If you never try, you end up haunted by shadows, not knowing if you could have succeeded, if the risk might have led to joy, if your contribution could have made a difference.

And that, in my book, is far heavier to carry than any failure.

For we introverts, this question has an extra twist.
Because safety is so seductive, staying small feels comfortable, until it does not. One day the comfort calcifies into stuckness, and that is far more suffocating than failure ever was.

So yes, failure is uncomfortable. But never knowing?
That is soul-crushing. And every time I am faced with that choice, I will choose the chance of failure over the certainty of regret. Because even my failures feed my flourishing.

Head back to the newsletter to see how reframing failure as fuel, not a full stop, becomes one of the most liberating choices we introverts can make.

What might shift for you if you treated failure as not a proof of inadequacy but as evidence that you were brave enough to experiment?

When failure is treated as inadequacy, the whole experience becomes a whip we use to lash ourselves with.

We retreat, shrink, and conclude that we should never have tried in the first place.
That is how dreams wither and confidence corrodes.

But when failure is reframed as evidence of bravery, everything shifts. Failure becomes a scar that says, “I dared. I experimented. I cared enough about myself and my ideas to bring them to life.” That scar is proof that you stood in the arena rather than hiding in the stands, that you tested the edges of your comfort zone instead of making a home inside it.

For we introverts, this shift is especially profound.
We feel the pressure to stay small, safe, and quiet. We internalise the falsehood that our natural caution means we should not try at all. But bravery does not need to be flamboyant or noisy.

It can be quiet, steady, experimental. Each so-called failure in that sense becomes a breadcrumb on the path of growth, a lived experience that makes us wiser and more resilient.

So the next time you are tempted to see failure as inadequacy, pause and ask yourself instead:

“What if this is simply proof that I dared to experiment?”

The answer to that question can change everything.

Head back to the newsletter to see how failing fast, instead of hiding in perfectionism, builds resilience, psychological safety, and flourishing.

Reflections Week 39 of 2025

What’s the difference between letting go and simply avoiding what feels uncomfortable?

Avoidance is about shoving things into the cupboard and hoping the door holds. The problem is, we introverts know that what’s hidden still weighs heavy in our minds.

Letting go is different. It’s the courageous choice to face the discomfort, name it for what it is, take the learning, and then release it. Avoidance numbs, but never heals.

Letting go clears the ground so we can grow.

If that lands for you, continue reading the message in Blue Box in the newsletter, as next I talk about how the seasons themselves can help us make peace with these shifts.

How can introverts reframe the changing seasons of life so they feel like opportunities rather than losses?

Each season is a mirror.

Autumn teaches us the beauty of release, winter gives us permission to rest, spring offers renewal, and summer lets us celebrate. When we see life this way, seasons stop being markers of decline and start being invitations to shift our energy.

As introverts, we can thrive when we align with these rhythms instead of fighting them. Loss turns into space. Change turns into opportunity.

To understand how I honour those seasons in my own life, even when it feels hard, check out the closing section in the newsletter.

You’re going to love the upcoming episode of ‘dropping’ Pebbles in the Pond as your host Joanna Rawbone and Featured Flourishing Personality, Heidi Brown, reflect on who is writing the script of our life, and why we really need to rewrite the script on our terms.

Heidi, a lawyer, now Associate Dean for Upper Level Writing and acclaimed author is also an unapologetic introvert who knows what it’s like to wake up in a life that no longer fits, and to begin the brave, imperfect work of rewriting it.

Leadership Intentions Misread

Leadership Intentions Misread

How It Impacts Trust

(dropping) Pebbles in the Pond

Season 2, Episode 009

Ever felt like you are doing what it takes to be a good leader:

  • showing up
  • listening attentively
  • deciding thoughtfully,
  • inclusively..

only to discover your quiet presence is being perceived as

  • distant
  • disengaged
  • or worse, clueless?

Fellow Introvert Leaders, we know we operate differently, so are we better to name what makes us tick and what we are perceiving in order to minimise misconceptions?

Highlights from the LIVE broadcast

In this episode I am joined by Julie Goddard, a leadership psychologist, who focuses on building highly effective teams in High-Stakes Environments – so she’s the go-to in these high pressure times. She’s not here for gimmicks or personality pigeonholes (sorry MBTI fans) but she is here to talk about what really builds trust:

  • Humility
  • Clarity, and
  • Courage to lead with integrity

even when it’s uncomfortable.

We unpack:

  • Why your good intentions don’t always land how you think?
  • How pressure scrambles perception; yours and theirs?
  • Why confidence is not a prerequisite for leadership (hint hint: it’s a side effect of action)

Most importantly for me, why, if you are an introvert, your quiet is not the problem but your unspoken assumptions just might be.

Don’t forget to check out the generous gift by Julie Goddard – ‘Guide to Building Trust – Your Way’ – see below.

If you are a quietly determined leader who wants to build trust without selling your soul, this conversation might just be your gamechanger. I invite you to join us in this conversation to lead with clarity and action, then confidence.

From Chaos to Consistency | Leveraging Introvert Strengths

Managing and scaling a business can feel like quite the tasks, chaotic even.

What if there was a way to bring consistency and structure without overcomplicating things?

And, how would that look like for we introverts?

My next guest, Marianne Page is energetic, exuberant and full of positivity. At first glance, you wouldn’t even think she could be an introvert. And that is why this conversation is going to be refreshing, and exciting. In her work, Marianne helps organizations and teams scale using simple, logical and repeatable ways.

Question is, how does our personality play a role in that process?

We’ll be particularly diving into how our quieter strengths play a role in driving powerful results.
