Using Your Voice: Authentically

Using Your Voice

Authentically as an Introvert

(dropping) Pebbles in the Pond

Season 2, Episode 011

What happens when a powerhouse vocal coach meets a champion for Sassy Introverts?

Magic.

In this energising and deeply honest conversation, Clinton Jordan joins our Founder and CEO, Joanna Rawbone to explore how introverts can stop hiding and start trusting their voices in ways that feel real, resonant and unapologetically theirs.

Clinton’s journey, from stutter to superstar stages is proof that your voice doesn’t have to be loud to carry weight. Together, they unpack the courage, confidence and cheek it takes to show up fully in a noisy world without selling out your quieter nature.

This is more than a pep talk. It’s a rallying cry for introverts who are ready to speak with soul, not volume.

Tune in for a laugh, reflection and walk away Becoming Braver than before.

Heidi’s journey offers both insight and permission.

Together, she and Joanna explore the subtle (and not so subtle) scripts we absorb – about success, belonging, and how we are meant to show up. More importantly, what happens when we start questioning them.

This is a conversation about the gut-punch moment of realisation, the discomfort of unlearning, and the quiet courage it takes to choose differently.

In this episode, we’ll dive into

  • Why the life you’re living might not be the one you chose
  • How to unearth and rewrite the scripts that no longer serve you
  • What one conscious line you might add to your story, starting now

Leadership Intentions Misread

Leadership Intentions Misread

How It Impacts Trust

(dropping) Pebbles in the Pond

Season 2, Episode 009

Ever felt like you are doing what it takes to be a good leader:

  • showing up
  • listening attentively
  • deciding thoughtfully,
  • inclusively..

only to discover your quiet presence is being perceived as

  • distant
  • disengaged
  • or worse, clueless?

Fellow Introvert Leaders, we know we operate differently, so are we better to name what makes us tick and what we are perceiving in order to minimise misconceptions?

Highlights from the LIVE broadcast

In this episode I am joined by Julie Goddard, a leadership psychologist, who focuses on building highly effective teams in High-Stakes Environments – so she’s the go-to in these high pressure times. She’s not here for gimmicks or personality pigeonholes (sorry MBTI fans) but she is here to talk about what really builds trust:

  • Humility
  • Clarity, and
  • Courage to lead with integrity

even when it’s uncomfortable.

We unpack:

  • Why your good intentions don’t always land how you think?
  • How pressure scrambles perception; yours and theirs?
  • Why confidence is not a prerequisite for leadership (hint hint: it’s a side effect of action)

Most importantly for me, why, if you are an introvert, your quiet is not the problem but your unspoken assumptions just might be.

Don’t forget to check out the generous gift by Julie Goddard – ‘Guide to Building Trust – Your Way’ – see below.

If you are a quietly determined leader who wants to build trust without selling your soul, this conversation might just be your gamechanger. I invite you to join us in this conversation to lead with clarity and action, then confidence.

From Chaos to Consistency | Leveraging Introvert Strengths

Managing and scaling a business can feel like quite the tasks, chaotic even.

What if there was a way to bring consistency and structure without overcomplicating things?

And, how would that look like for we introverts?

My next guest, Marianne Page is energetic, exuberant and full of positivity. At first glance, you wouldn’t even think she could be an introvert. And that is why this conversation is going to be refreshing, and exciting. In her work, Marianne helps organizations and teams scale using simple, logical and repeatable ways.

Question is, how does our personality play a role in that process?

We’ll be particularly diving into how our quieter strengths play a role in driving powerful results.

Being Authentically Visible

Being Authentically Visible

(dropping) Pebbles in the Pond

Season 2, Episode 006

Visibility is quite the paradox for we introverts. We need to be visible for our message to really be understood, yet raising our hand or being comfortably loud like the extraverts is simply not who we are.

Without a doubt be it opportunities at work, relationships (professional and personal) or self-advocacy we continue to miss out if we fail to get noticed.

But self-promotion, standing out and loudness is typically inauthentic and draining for us. For we introverts, the real challenge is finding the right balance so we show up authentically and impactfully, without losing who we are – the ones who prefer quieter, gentler way of things.

And hence Jenny is the perfect Flourishing Personality for this episode of (dropping) Pebbles in the Pond.

I am excited to welcome Jenny Kovacs, the Queen of Being Seen to drop a pebble in our pond because as an introvert, visibility was one of the final obstacles I had to overcome.

The thought of being visible in any small way, let alone the ‘Queen of Being Seen’ had me freak out. Jenny has shown time and time again that visibility doesn’t have to involve being noisy, just strategically noticed for the right reasons.

Tune-in here as Jenny and I together explore, ‘Being Visible Authentically’. Don’t forget to click ‘Notify Me’ so you are alerted when we are LIVE.

Be Your Own Ally and Advocate

Be Your Own Ally and Advocate

(dropping) Pebbles in the Pond

Season 2, Episode 005

We may be introverts but that doesn’t mean we cannot or should not advocate for ourselves. Sitting around waiting for others to take up our cause is not the way to flourish.

In fact, we also need to be on our own side and allies to ourselves.

Join Ali Hollands Hook, founder of The Happy Human and your host Joanna Rawbone, as they chew the cud over how to be our own best friend.

About Ali Hollands Hook

In Ali’s own words, “I’ve experienced the wonderful joys of love, marriage, parenthood, success, joy, sisterhood and friendship. I’ve experienced the crushing lows of sadness, betrayal, failure, feeling lost, bad choices, confusion and every other emotion one can imagine – because that’s life! Through that and sometimes because of that, I can genuinely say, I’m a happy human.

Let me explain…being a happy human does not mean everything is perfect, or that you’re perfect. No. I’m talking deep rooted, purposeful, full spectrum living; where you know what your skills, resources and brilliance are. You engage with life in a way that brings joy and meaning. You’ll know your frailties, weaknesses and shadow side too and you’ll accept that. To be a truly happy human, you’ll find a way to embrace all that is you.”

(dropping) Pebbles in the Pond

Season 2, Episode 004

Life is a dance, but who is really choreographing your moves? It is your life after all, so how about YOU – Be The Choreographer, You Choose the Steps!

In this episode of (dropping) Pebbles in the Pond, my guest and I explore how introverts and allies can take charge of their lives and reclaim their narratives in a world often designed for extraverts.

I catch-up with Bhavna Radia, the Divorce Queen (UK) who is an introvert flourishing on her own terms. Bhava is empowering women to take charge by choreographing the next passage in the dance of their life.

Together, we discuss how re-take the control of your life, embrace your inner strength, and craft your unique dance of life.

Let’s dance to our own rhythm.

About Bhavna Radia

Bhavna’s mission is to continue to inspire and educate people so that they can also experience a truly positive transition from married to single.

In the past she has practised as a specialist family solicitor and helped many clients through their divorce journey. Whilst sometimes, it is necessary, the legal system is designed to add hostility in situations where it may have been possible to reach amicable outcomes.

Through her own divorce experience, she discovered her passion to bring hope and solutions to families going through the end of a relationship.

The week of Big Decisions

The week of Big Decisions

Nugget of the Week

I’ve spoken before about surrounding yourself with the right people and for the last 10 days or so, I really have felt the warmth of those who are on the same page as me. And I’m rather overawed.

I’m overawed because it made me realize just how rarely this has happened in my life. And you know my first reaction was a bit of disbelief, a few moments of ‘this is too good to be true’. Because everyone warns us that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. So, you can hardly blame me.

And yet, I also know the power of optimism and that was the letter ‘O’ in this year’s Seasonal Sanity Savers. I grew up in a very practical and pragmatic household, and yes here is a difference between these two for me.

I was encouraged to be optimistic as a child on the grounds that it fostered the growth mindset (not that we knew that term back then) and enabled the flexibility of approach required to create a pragmatic solution to a problem.

Anyway, I’m now feeling very blessed that I have so many who are supporting my current endeavours. I’ve never liked the term tribe, but I am enjoying the gathering of my guild.

This Sh** Really Happened!

I delivered a disastrous training session, and I do mean the very worst anyone could ever imagine. To make matters worse, all of the bigwig, high powered commissioning clients witnessed it.

I’ve never felt so humiliated or incompetent, so it was a good thing it was only in my dream! I mean how could ALL of my commissioning clients have been in the same event? That would never happen.

I am often staggered at how real dreams are and how they have the ability to rob me of precious restful sleep, because they are so real. This particular dream happened after 6 am when I knew I needed a few more Zzzzzs.

If any of you are dream analysts, I’d love to know what this one means. I was in a large hall like training room, too large for the small number of delegates in attendance.

We were hours into the training when the AV started playing up and rather than showing a video I’d chosen, it kept showing a ball game. I went to get it fixed and when I returned, the large room was now full of people very disgruntled who didn’t really know why they were there.

Worse than that, these bigwig commissioning clients, most of whom I’ve not seen for years and who no longer work for their respective organisations, had clipboards ready to ‘mark’ me.

I went to retrieve my own trainers notes only to find they had been covered by loads of paperwork that the bigwigs had brought. Finding mine would have taken too long so I started to walk the room as I introduced an exercise. My voice was so slurred that I could barely understand what I was saying. At that moment, the clipboards got a lot of attention and several delegates walked out.

I was distraught.

Then the commissioning clients went into a huddle, looked over their shoulders at me and then left.

One whose face was really familiar came in for a hug but I turned away.

I rarely refuse a hug so this much have been serious.

Those sort of dreams are really disconcerting to me – and the fact that I remember so many details must mean there’s a message there for me.

Can anyone help me out?

Most of us dream, even if we don’t remember them and here’s some of the learning I have chosen to take from this one.

If dreams are the way our brain processes the happenings of the day,

  •  Be prepared that one day, all of my key stakeholders might meet and talk to each other. Will they share a consistent, congruent, & compelling impression of what I do and why?
  • When I am launching exciting new projects, consider whether it is better to have more capacity than I might need or make it standing room only? A recent training I attended suggested the latter, so that’s what I’ll probably go with.
  • Always have an AV/tech team on hand (thank you my Intentional team) and prepare an alternative low tech delivery method so that I can deliver whatever I need to without the tech if needed.

I wonder what lessons you would have chosen?

One thing for sure though, I’m not letting this spook me. It could easily lead me into catastrophisation but it was only a dream. Let’s keep that in perspective.

Coming up, Buttercup!

Join me on 2nd January 2025 for a transformative webinar, empowering introverts to step into their strength, while equipping allies to amplify their presence. It is time to rattle cages as a collaborative force.

Trust me, the team and I had different choice of words but we’ve toned it down for the faint hearted.

In a world that often favours the loudest voices in the room, we introverts are frequently overlooked, underestimated, or excluded, if not always. One of my senior executives even reminded me of a mention of ‘Extravert Ideal is the last acceptable bias’ in my Reflections newsletter. And it so is.

But not anymore.

Those who know me for a while know every year on 2nd January I celebrate the World Introvert Day by gifting a FREE webinar to my audience. This year, I aim for this webinar to begin a transformative introvert rebellion. It is time for the Sassy Introverts to show-up proud and strong.

In 2025, one area of focus is to empower introverts to step into their strength, show up authentically, and create spaces where they are seen, heard, and valued. This is how we ensure we are not denied access, because that’s not happening, not on my watch anyway!

This isn’t just about introverts finding their voice.

It is time to go one step further, and also equip our allies to stand besides us, amplifying our presence and ensuring the introverts are sidelined no more. I’ll share more over the next few days, so I invite you to join me on 2nd January 2025 as we being the year authentically, with determination to rattle cages and shift the needle towards inclusion.
